I too, would like the ability to pull out eta s to waypoints ahead of the next one. Where I fly there are no reliable wind forecasts, and actual GS can be quite different to the estimated one on the plog.

I regularly am asked estimates for waypoints hundreds of miles away. Yes your GS can change but an estimate based on current GS would be great.

Vertical navigation will be one of the new features in the next version of SkyDemon.

Thank you David for the suggestions. I will try them. Having said that, this information is requested regularly by ATC while flying in the North East of England, Around London and across the Channel to France, Isle of Man , Ireland and the Channel Isles. I feel if the information is within the programme already, why not use it without too many 'vulnerable clickings' of a touch screen in sometimes what can prove to be a very busy airspace. My philosophy is why do the calculations if the technology is already doing it? May be too laid back an approach.

I see what you mean. A couple of ideas worth testing.

First I think you can still change the leg it thinks you are flying by "clicking" on the next destination text, top mid of screen. Keep clicking and loops around the flight plan. I imagine that this will then give ETE from current position to the end of the chosen leg.

I agree that on a Garmin 296 you can pull up the route. But I have never used this to give estimated time at a given waypoint  .. nor even on a longish flight has anyone asked for such  .. but I see that they might. Other point is that I am not sure Garmin is smart enough to take wind calcs into account  .. I think the best its likely to do is to take the current groundspeed and use this to calculate times. Thats OK if you are going vaguely in same direction  .. otherwise not OK. Also winds can change direction & strength over 200 miles.

I only have 800 hrs in my log book but have never been asked for such info and cannot think of an occasion when I might have wanted to know it myself. But thats just me.

If I wanted it, I wd use the PLOG printout (which does take wind into account properly) and give an approx (within 5 mins) time to be updated when the given leg actually starts.

My 2p's worth!!

David

Unless the toggle function has been changed recently, information is only available for two points. Next way point and destination waypoint. If my flight is long and spans some 200 plus miles it is likely that I have say 4-6 way points between departure and arrival aerodromes. The info for say way point 3 or 4 would not be available by the toggle function immediately after departure. This information is however, is hiding within SD, and can be brought out in an easily legible table.

The table does not have to fit the screen en-toto. It can be made big by design and can be scrolled through via the touch screen.

Essentially it means the whole automatically up-dated flight plan be made visible within mobile SD. If ATC reuested ETA to the third or fourth way point, there would be no need to do mental arithmetics during the flight.

Indeed Most GPS sets I know, (I still have 2 others Garmin pilot III and Skyforce and hope to ditch both for SD) have this important function, which is very useful in destination flying. Obviously this function won't be so important for short flights or just flying "around the block".

Seems to me much of the features requested in latest post are there with exception of fuel calcs. The time and distance to next waypoint are both there  .. tap on the boxes below the SD logo to toggle various alternatives (current leg, destination etc).

A PLOG in the printed format wd be virtually unreadable in the cockpit  .. IMHO.

Can I add my voice to this request, as I was not aware of this thread. I did also discuss with Tim some months ago that the PLOG within the SD mobile is a very desirable feature and would probably answer a lot of pilots prayers. This would include a table with the vertical cells starting with the departure and ending with the arrival airfields. All way points in between are also depicted successively. The horizontal cells would include departure time, ETA to each way point and destination which is updated every few seconds after the flight is commenced. It also includes other very useful information such as leg fuel (as well as running total) leg distance (as well as running total), Leg time (as well as running total), magnetic heading, sunrise and sunset times. This is very useful for destination flying especially when ATC request one's ETA's to a way point (usually followed by 'when you have it please'). The up-to-date answer would be at the pilots finger-tips with no further calculations necessary. The interesting point is that all the information to derive such a log table is already within SD. I would imagine it may also be possible to incorporate the MSA for each leg in the table.

Of course making suggestions is easy but I would imagine all good things take time.

I'd very much like to see a vertical navigation feature. I'm really impressed by how much SkyDemon has come on - for me it would definitely be the final feature that would persuade me to buy...

That's a good idea as a work round for now. I'd not thought of doing it that way.

Look forward to seeing some basic vertical navigation features in the future at some point perhaps.
